Draft Logo Project

This is my rough draft for the kappa sigma logo. This is meant to be a general symbol for recruitment and promotion of the fraternity. For inspiration I looked through a number of fraternity logos. Delta zeta had an interesting design where the D was on top of the Z and it made a pyramid design, I found that interesting and took inspiration from that. Because of that I decided to use the K and the sigma and connect them, so they look as if they are one intricate shape. I think the design came out pretty well. I had to add some extra lines and troubleshoot the shapes but in the end it worked. I decide on the square inside the circle by playing around with the shape effects. I originally had two circles, one bigger than the other. I then changed the outside circle to have jagged edges. I decided to make the shape have only four corners because I likes the way it looked. I then colored in the four pockets. The colors are crimson, ivory, teal and emerald, the colors of Kappa Sigma. I placed a banner in top left of the logo with the work “Rush” in it. This is signaling that this is a piece of recruitment material. In the bottom right I have when the fraternity was founded. As far as improvement for the final draft I think I will move the “rush” banner to the center top above the symbol. Then I will add a texture to the banner. I attempted this in the draft, but the texture did not come out as wanted. I may also move the “established 1869” to the bottom to give the logo a better sense of balance. Besides that, I’m not sure what else could be improved upon

  1. Tyler, your logo is super clean and looks very professional. The diamond shape inside the circle is a cool design, and I like the how the colors only take up a small amount of space but still pop. It could also stand alone without the “Rush” and “Established 1869,” as the core design is very strong. The idea you had about centering the rush and est. parts was good, and maybe changing the fonts on those to match the more modern style of the logo could help too. The way you tied the K and sigma together was creative and definitely adds to the design so good job on that. Overall, really cool design and honestly there isn’t a lot to change, other than maybe seeing how centering those two elements looks. Good work.

  2. Tyler,
There are a lot of things I really like about this logo and with some final polishing, I think this logo will be ready to be submitted as a final draft. I really like the cooperation between the Kappa and Sigma letters to create a stand-alone letter. The use of the colors crimson, ivory, teal, and emerald create a great border for the logo. My main suggestion would be to try and find a way to incorporate the “Rush” and “Est. 1869” inside of the diamond itself. I believe that this would make the logo look a lot cleaner and give the logo a defined the shape. A defined shape is important for a logo because it allows you to print very small and still be recognizable. My favorite part of the design is the way that the diamond intersects with the circle without just being one within the other. With a few final touches, I believe this design will be ready to submit as a final.

  3. This is a very solid logo with good design features that are simple but clean. The black and white with the small color thrown in looks really good as well. The font looks really good and adds a vintage feel to the logo that I like. One thing you might try out is making the rush banner bigger or easier to notice so that the idea of rushing the house really pops out at you. Including the words Kappa Sigma somewhere on the logo might help as well considering lots of kids that rush don’t know the Greek alphabet. It would clear up any confusion and it would add a cool aspect the logo. You could try curving it around the outside of the circle to match the rush banner. You could also try doing the same thing with the date the fraternity was founded. Having everything wrap around might look pretty cool and make it easier to scale.
