Although I enjoyed most of the projects in Com210, my favorite had to be our last project where we created a video relating to our theme. This was my favorite because I already had experience in premier and was able to show off my pre-existing skills. On the other had I did not have very much experience in illustrator. I think I will use this program to create icons and make logos in the future. I am double majoring in advertisement and media production. The use of adobe suit will very much be useful in my future career. For example, if I need to create a commercial, I can use premier and design advertisement in photoshop. As far as things I wish we could have learned in this class, I wish we could have learned some animation. I felt that the audio unit was very boring and not super useful. I feel the time would have gone to better use if we could have learned about animation. It was even stated in the course that adobe audition is not the best program for editing sound. Lessons in a program that is more relevant would have been a better use of time. A cite that I found useful was defiantly WordPress. Because of the requirements in the beginning I now know hot to set up a personal website. This will defiantly be useful in the future. For example, I plan on showing off my creative portfolio online and WordPress is defiantly a viable option for that. As far as comments for the class I hold the opinion that attendance should not be mandatory. I personally did not have any troubles in the class and therefore did not need the help of the teacher assistant. Therefore, it was a waste of time for me to walk to class and do nothing for 20 minutes. Other than that, I enjoyed the course and am happy about the skills that I learned through the course.

Kappa Sigma House Tour
The primary Goal of this video is to visually show what the house of kappa sigma looks like as well as informing the viewer about the fraternity and about the positive effects of fraternity life. The first shot is an establishing shot of the fraternity itself. It then transitions into a shot of the front door and zooms into the door. I then have a shot of the foyer with he poster “Kappa Sigma the most wanted man”. I time re-mapped this shot to speed up then slow down when the whole poster is in the shot. Then I have a left swoop transition into the library where I show off the many accomplishments of kappa sigma. I do another transition into the main living room where the giant letters are. In this shot I do a slow walk to the right in a U formation. I then transition into the room shots. I decided to do this because of the creativity and individuality it shows of the people who decorate it. For the first room shot I did not transition because I felt that opening the door was transition enough. The camera floats through the room then pans up to the celling. During this pan I transition to another room, but it looks as if it is one fluid motion. I enjoyed this effect because it throws the viewer off guard. I then show a brother playing video games in his uniquely decorated room. I then transition into another room to show off the diversity in rooms available. I then transition to a shot of the kitchen showing off composites and the letters in the kitchen. Lastly, I have the camera slowly zoom out backwards from the fraternity. For the final version I decided to color grade the footage to make it look better. I also added music in the background. The song is by an artist called KIDD RETRO and called “Part 4”. I know this artist personally and asked him to use the song. It can be found at https://soundcloud.com/kiddretrobeats/part-4

Ksig audio final
I decided to re record the audio for this project. I did this so I could have a more relaxed and causal sound to it instead of me rushing through it. I asked my friend Matthew to narrate the second section of the audio. I think the change up worked well and gave it more auditory diversity. I also did some slight trimming of natural pauses and stuttering. Lastly, I added the last part in about community service. I thought that was a decent way to end it. I thought about adding an introduction or outro. Also all information given in the audio can be found on the Kappa Sigma website. Over all I think I did a good job with this project. Here is the transcription: Kappa Sigma is the largest college social fraternity in the world with more than 200,000 living members, including over 20,000 undergraduates and 320 chapters and colonies located throughout the United States and Canada. Founded in 1869 at the University of Virginia, Kappa Sigma International Headquarters is based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Take the lead. In Kappa Sigma, brothers learn to get involved in their communities and take the lead when something needs to be done. Countless brothers, including senators, governors and CEOs, have said Kappa Sigma gave them the leadership skills they needed to succeed. Want to get more from your college experience? Kappa Sigma makes it happen. Joining Kappa Sigma provides opportunities for fellowship, fun, and personal growth that you simply can’t get elsewhere. Over 280,000 men have joined and enjoyed the unmatched experiences, involvement, and lifelong brotherhood that Kappa Sigma offers. There is no secret…our goal is to build better men. Helping others is part of being a Kappa Sigma. Brothers spend thousands of hours working in their communities and raise thousands of dollars for worthy causes each year. From organizing park clean-ups to serving as Big Brothers to organizing charity rock concerts, Kappa Sigmas work hard for their causes. College is fun, but only service gives you the great feeling of knowing you’ve helped someone and made a difference.
Draft audio story
I decided to narrate a general explanation of what kappa sigma is as an organization. This relates to my course topic as it is a general advertisement for the fraternity of kappa sigma. The design influences I decided to get inspired from is general infomercials where there is a lot of information is presented in a fast manor. This encourages the idea of it being an advertisement and an informative piece of audio. In the beginning I knew I wanted to make something informative and educational piece of audio. On the kappa sigma website, I decided to piece some articles together and create an informative narrative about the organization. Then I personally narrated it. I collected the elements via my laptop webcam. I cut out the silent spaces in the audio as much as appropriate but some spacing and posing is natural in my opinion. I also edited the volume of some of the clips. I found that the computer webcam is not the best for recording audio. I have a shotgun mic that connects to my camera. I think in the final version I will re-record my audio as well as get narration from someone else in my recording.

Final Logo

This is my final draft for the kappa sigma logo. This is meant to be a general symbol for recruitment and promotion of the fraternity. For inspiration I looked through a number of fraternity logos. Delta zeta had an interesting design where the D was on top of the Z and it made a pyramid design, I found that interesting and took inspiration from that. Because of that I decided to use the K and the sigma and connect them, so they look as if they are one intricate shape. I think the design came out pretty well. I had to add some extra lines and troubleshoot the shapes but in the end it worked. I decide on the square inside the circle by playing around with the shape effects. I originally had two circles, one bigger than the other. I then changed the outside circle to have jagged edges. I decided to make the shape have only four corners because I likes the way it looked. I then colored in the four pockets. The colors are crimson, ivory, teal and emerald, the colors of Kappa Sigma. I placed a banner in top left of the logo with the work “Rush” in it. This is signaling that this is a piece of recruitment material. In the bottom right I have when the fraternity was founded. In the critiques of my peers I was told many different opinions of what to do with the design. One wanted the labels inside the circle, and some wanted completely different things. One person wanted me to write the word “Kappa Sigma” instead of the letters. In the end I decided to only change the color of the rush symbol in the top left corner to match with the “Established” Sign in the bottom right corner. Overall, I am happy with the final design of the logo.
