Draft Logo Project

This is my rough draft for the kappa sigma logo. This is meant to be a general symbol for recruitment and promotion of the fraternity. For inspiration I looked through a number of fraternity logos. Delta zeta had an interesting design where the D was on top of the Z and it made a pyramid design, I found that interesting and took inspiration from that. Because of that I decided to use the K and the sigma and connect them, so they look as if they are one intricate shape. I think the design came out pretty well. I had to add some extra lines and troubleshoot the shapes but in the end it worked. I decide on the square inside the circle by playing around with the shape effects. I originally had two circles, one bigger than the other. I then changed the outside circle to have jagged edges. I decided to make the shape have only four corners because I likes the way it looked. I then colored in the four pockets. The colors are crimson, ivory, teal and emerald, the colors of Kappa Sigma. I placed a banner in top left of the logo with the work “Rush” in it. This is signaling that this is a piece of recruitment material. In the bottom right I have when the fraternity was founded. As far as improvement for the final draft I think I will move the “rush” banner to the center top above the symbol. Then I will add a texture to the banner. I attempted this in the draft, but the texture did not come out as wanted. I may also move the “established 1869” to the bottom to give the logo a better sense of balance. Besides that, I’m not sure what else could be improved upon

Final Graphic Design Project

This image is meant to be an advertisement for the fraternity of kappa sigma. I combined 6 different images to create this. The first was the letters of kappa sigma. I took the picture on my iPhone then emailed it to my computer. In Photoshop I used the magic want select tool to separate the actual letters from the background photo. I then placed the letters in the center of the image. In the bottom right corner of the image I placed a picture that I took last semester. I took it on the west side of campus, the area close to downtown Pullman and the skate park. After taking the picture I decided to change the sky from a boring grey color to a pink and blue color. I feel as if this brightened up the image as well as making it more interesting. The picture in the top right is actually a screen shot from a video I had made previously. It is a picture of the front of the kappa sigma house. I liked it as it showed of nice texture of the brick walls of the house as well as giving an idea of the actual fraternity building looks like.  As for the changes made from my last post, the picture to the far left is another picture of the fraternity and the PC19 class. I included this picture because It shows the current active members in the house, showing we have a solid number of members. In the left corners is a picture of a large poster we have in the house I chose to include it because it is almost an advertisement in itself. To the right is insignia. This symbol stands for recruitment and bringing new members into the house. I thought this was a good touch as this is an image with the purpose of recruiting new members. The suggestions made by my peers was to add more content to the left side and that’s exactly what I did. My peers also have mixed feeling about the stars in the K being translucent but I decided to keep it. Overall I think it turned out to be a good advertisement and i’m happy with the changes I’ve made.

The picture to the far left is another picture of the fraternity. I took this picture during homecoming week of my freshman year. That pictures shows how the house was decorated in celebration of homecoming. The streamers and the decorations showed a happy and festive vibe. If you look closely you can se that Kappa Sigma was partnered with the Alpha Delta Pie sorority. This shows that we are in fact a social fraternity and that we have good relations with Alpha Delta Pie. In my final draft I may add more pictures to show the point of this image. I might also make the pictures blend together better.

My semester topic

My choice of topics is the fraternity that I am apart of, Kappa Sigma. I chose this topic for a number of reasons. Firstly, because it is something close to my heart, therefore I will be emotionally driven to create quality content so that it will positively reflect Kappa Sigma. Secondly because fraternities in general get a bad rap in the media. Rarely is anything positive reported about the Greek community. So, I want to shed light on the positive effects that Greek life has on the people involved with it. I want to help give a more positive connotation around Greek life in the media. I plan on collecting original content by taking pictures and video from within the house of kappa sigma on the Pullman campus. For the video project I plan on creating a video encouraging freshman men to join kappa sigma. I will do this by showing off the physical house as well as having interviews with members about what it means to be in Kappa Sigma. I will also explain the philanthropies we are apart off and how we give back to the community. This will be beneficial as it fulfills the video requirement for this class as well as creating promotional content for Kappa Sigma. Secondly, I plan on creating a promotional poster for an event. The specific event is still up in the air but for example I could create a poster for alumni weekend in support of the alumni coming back to Pullman for the weekend. I am excited for this topic as I will be creating content about something I am passionate about. I’m also excited because I feel as if I can give a new perspective on Greek live to people that have not experienced it themselves.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
